Why Can't Windows Open iPhone Photos?
Apple uses HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default because it produces half the file size of JPG at the same quality. However, it uses a codec (HEVC/H.265) that requires a license to decode - which is why Windows, many websites, and older design tools can't open these files natively.
