How Client-Side PDF Processing Works
When you drop a PDF onto this tool, your browser reads it into local memory (RAM) using the
FileReader API. The pdf-lib library - a WebAssembly-powered PDF
engine - then manipulates the document structure entirely inside your browser tab.
The resulting merged/split file is converted to a Blob URL and triggered as a
download. At no point does any data leave your machine. You can verify this
by opening your browser's Network tab - you'll see zero outgoing requests during processing.
Why iLovePDF and SmallPDF Have Limits
Those services process your PDF on their own servers - which costs them real money in cloud compute. So they charge you after 2 free merges, or limit file sizes to under 25MB.
Since this tool has zero server costs for PDF processing, we have:
- No page limit: Merge 500-page documents
- No file size limit: Handle 200MB+ PDFs (only limited by your device RAM)
- No daily usage cap: Merge 100 PDFs in a row
- No login required: Not one account to create
